March is Youth Art Month!

Every March, FCP commemorates Youth Art Month with our annual Youth Celebrate Art and Culture exhibition. In our main gallery, a couple hundred works art will show, brought in by art teachers from nearly all of the schools in Flagstaff - public, private, charter and the likes. The artists range from Kindergarten age to 18 years old. We do our best to legitimately celebrate as many aspects of local youth art as we can with performances and workshops too!

During the opening reception, Ballet Folklorico and the Coconino High School Dance Team will liven up our stage. (We'll also have an old fashioned popcorn popper on hand and some yummy refreshments to satisfy your child-like snack foo
d craving.)

During the week of Spring Break (March 14th-18th), a half dozen local
arts organization and groups will provide workshops at CCA. So far, we have confirmed that Flagstaff Youth Theater, The Masterpiece Art Program of Flagstaff, and Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy African Drum and Dance will be here, sharing artistic insights and allowing Flagstaff Youth to express themselves through a range of different outlets. The workshops will be from 10-1, Monday - Friday of that week, but check back on our website for a more complete itinerary and for which classes are best for which age group.

Complimenting the workshops and main gallery exhibit is an installation in our Jewel Gallery by Grand Canyon Youth titled "Read the Water: and it will speak." The installation features writing, visual art and photography created by teens who were on GCY's 2010 Grand Inspiration Program. What's really great about their installation is that the art was inspired by and created on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, or on the South Rim.

In short:
  • Youth Celebrate Art and Culture exhibition AND "Read the Water: and it will Speak" will show March 12 - April 2, 2011.
  • Opening Reception is Friday, March 11 from 4-7pm (featuring performances, art and popcorn and The Youth!)
  • Spring Break Workshops - March 14th-18th, providing dancing, drumming and drama!

Here's a sneak preview of YCAC 2011!
