Happy Friday :)

FIRST Friday, to be exact. Because it means ArtWalk!!

Tonight is surely my favorite night of the year to spend in beautiful Downtown Flagstaff. The streets will overflow with families on vacation for the summer holidays, local artists showcasing their work, music pouring from businesses, and lots and lots of pretty faces buying art and supporting our local economy. There's something extra special about the July ArtWalk. It's summertime and the living's easy.

Seven Sparrows Earrings
Gallery 113 is July's HotSpot. They have moved to a new location at 111 E. Aspen Ave! They're featuring the paintings of Frank Balaam, the ceramics of Barry Carpenter, the jewelry of both Adrianne Dienno and Seven Sparrows, the photography of Neal Henderson, and the wonderful work of Simon Kirk and new Mick Frick pieces. Wowza! How did they fit so many talented artists into one space!? Word on the street is Gallery 113 is BBQing portabella mushrooms, too. I know where I'm headed first!
Have fun gallery hopping, but don't forget the excellent FREE entertainment on Heritage Square. Tonight at 6pm, Hopi Dancers will fill the Square in Downtown Flagstaff with traditional tribal dance. Palhikmana (Water Maiden) Dance by the Nuvatukya’ovi Sinom Dance Group is sure to bring some excitement to the ArtWalk!

Ahöla Abstract I by Marvin Charles Lomahaftewa

While you're there enjoying the cultural performance, be sure to wander into the Flagstaff Photography Center (right behind the stage). FPC is remembering Hopi artist, Marvin Charles Lomahaftewa, Spider Clan (1950-1985) through stories and the exhibition of his life’s work. Paintings, carvings, pottery, and jewelry will be on display alongside black and white images made in the late 70’s of the Lomahaftewas by local photographer, John Running, included in his book, Honor Dance. Contemporary prints made by Marvin’s grandchildren will be available for purchase.

Circus Bacchus will follow the Hopi Dancers with a circus troupe performance in Heritage Square at 7pm. Fun for all ages! These performances are part of the Friday Night Art in the Square Series. For more information on the Summer Nights in the Square, click here.

There are so many fun places, people, artists, things to see tonight in Flagstaff. Check out the full ArtWalk guide by clicking here.

Happy ArtWalking! Happy Friday!
