Summer in Flagstaff

Does it get any better than summer in Flagstaff? Arts and culture comes alive in the summer (it's alive in the other seasons, too, but summer's got a totally different feel)... the weather is beautiful, the nights are cool... Consider that the coming weekend is a "slow" one in comparison to some of our busier big weekends, and look at the options for this weekend in Flagstaff.

Flagstaff Music Festival - Featuring tons of local musicians, the Flagstaff Music Festival is pretty much the perfect activity for the weekend. Hang out on Heritage Square, take in the tunes and sip a tasty beverage or three.

A Vast Difference - Theatrikos' new production sounds like a funny one. I haven't seen it yet (I will), but I've not yet come across one of their plays that isn't worth the time, especially their comedies.

Henry Rollins - This one could be pretty cool. Something different altogether. Henry Rollins, of Black Flag and solo music fame, will be performing his special brand of spoken word commentary / humor / etc.

Native American Contemporary Art Exhibition - I'm biased, but this is one of the best art exhibitions I've seen in quite some time. Here at the Coconino Center for the Arts, 22 Native Artists present contemporary works with colorful, haunting and humorous images.

Flagstaff Music & Wine Festival - Wine, and lots of wine. Plus music. Need I say more?

Oakhurst - These guys sound goooood, from their promo: "Take a string band and swap out the fiddle player for a groovy drummer and you're well on your way to understanding the sound of Oakhurst."

All this, on just a random weekend in the middle of June, in Flagstaff. Just wait until we really pick up speed, starting with the 4th of July...

Cheers,
JT
