Everything's Gonna Be Alright
There's an ineffability to that moment at a concert when every single person in the audience closes their eyes, tilts their heads back, and belts out the words to the song that got them through that horrid breakup. Last night, I was one of the hundreds singing along to "No Woman, No Cry" at the Wailer's concert at Pepsi Amp. "Everything's gonna be alright." And in that moment, I believed it with 100% of my heart. When "One Love" was blasting from the stage, I watched a synchronized mob of fingers bobbing to the beats so distinct to reggae. I put my finger up with the rest of the crowd and shouted out, "one love, one heart," and yeah... I felt alright. What really did it though, really made me feel like something bigger and better than myself, was when when I helped sing that song of freedom, "Redemption Song." I let my eyes water, and I sent up a prayer for all the beautiful people that need redeeming. I sent up a prayer for myself.
After the show, I walked in near silence back to my car with my concert-mate. After a few minutes the only words that still didn't do the show justice were, "that was awesome."
