Beer, Biking, & Film
New Belgium's cLips of Faith Beer&Film Tour this weekend perfectly represents everything Flagstaff- art, beer, biking, and community. New Belgium prides itself on the festival saying, "It doesn’t get much better than sitting on a picnic blanket enjoying handmade beers and handmade films on a beautiful summer’s eve." And that's exactly what I did on Friday!
I arrived at the park way too early with my boyfriend because of his insane crowd anxiety. He was sure we wouldn't get a good view or we'd miss out on all the brew. He was wrong, but I'm glad I got there early enough to chat up some volunteers and even meet a New Belgium Brewer. We ate massive slices of Fratelli's pesto pizza, delicious as always, and got a sample of every beer offered. I'm not talking about Fat Tire either, although it was there. I'm talking about PIPA, the IPA made by a contest winner from last year's tour, and 10-10-10, a specialty brewed on October 10, 2010 (clever name, right?) and La Terroir, the only beer to ever give my boyfriend sour face.
The festival showcased some excellent films, of course. Funny, sentimental, clever. Some about beer, some about the environment. This fest had it all. The almost rain only made the films better.
The proceeds from the night went to Flagstaff Biking Organization, a non-profit that promotes biking as a fun and safe means of transportation. They're responsible for Bike to Work Week, SAFE KIDS, Flagstaff Loop Trail, and those fancy "share the road with cyclists" bumper stickers you see everywhere.
So you see now why I said it perfectly represents Flagstaff Culture. When we left, I asked my boyfriend, "Why don't we go to stuff like this more often?" Neither of us have an answer.
