Photo Tour of FOS

I headed out to Flagstaff Open Studios on Saturday, and visited about a dozen stops on the self-guided tour.  If you've never been to FOS, now's your chance!  It's open today 10am-5pm.  The map is available online.

Here are some images of what I saw (click on any photo for a larger image):

This is the welcome at Nancy DeBlois' Studio.

Inside, her studio is a mannequin repair shop. It's surreal.

Here's Nancy, posing with one of her mannequins as if it's a human being. Yes, surreal.

Nancy also sells these cool metal candle holders. There are other designs for window hangings, ornaments and wind chimes, all made with recycled cans.

Nancy wins the Most Humorous Award in FOS, as far as I'm concerned.
Jeweler Gretchen Smith is set up outside Nancy's studio.

Next, we saw some of Marsha Owen's work. This is one in progress, on commission.

I love FOS because I get to see works in progress and the tools of the trade, sometimes in action.

Also saw Lola Serkland's pottery at this same location. Most studios host two or three artists.

Greg Mason's Surreal Time Studio is a highly recommended stop. Thousands of found objects he uses for his found object sculptures litter his studio. It's a fascinating place, full of wonder and toys.  Like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory without the candy.

More Greg Mason.

The place is already chocked full on its shelves. But he also has drawers and drawers of stuff.

This Kee Bahe painting looked like an old black and white polaroid photo.

Kee Bahe sculpture in process. It'll be a bronze.

Katalin's Ehling's studio was a hard find, but worth it once we were there.  She works with batiks, which are a painstaking, messy process with fabric and wax. The results are fantastic.

 More by Katalin Ehling.

Chris Norlin's stained glass studio.  Not a great photo, but here she had a couple of works in progress.

If I had a better camera, I would have taken many more photos.  We saw much more than is captured here, and quite a few other talented artists who didn't make the cut because I take weak photos.  Anyway, what are you doing looking at my FOS tour on your computer? Get out there and experience it yourself!  If you missed the FOS weekend, go see Prelude at the Coconino Center for the Arts.

Cheers,
JT
