Music Lovers
Spring is in the air, and the music is too - in a few ways. The music literally "in the air" at FCP as our staff constantly has something playing in the various corners of our gallery, theater and offices, collectively keeping momentum with the alternative and folk music scene.
Spring is also the dawn of a busier concert season for FCP too. We've got a variety of musical acts coming into our acoustically divine theater in the next two months:
Friday, April 22, 8pm: Fishtank Ensemble
-This modern gypsy-music quartet includes a Serbian slap-bass extraordinaire, an operatic lead singer who plays the musical saw sweetly, a violinist/guitarist who spends part of the year traveling in a horse-drawn cart with other gypsy musicians across Europe, and a guitarist who has a background in flamenco and heavy metal. Whew.
Purchase tickets: $12 in advance, $15 day of show.
Friday, April 29, 7pm: Adam del Monte
-Closing the Grand Canyon Guitar Society's 2010-2011 (and continuing the flamenco/gypsy vibe), Adam del Monte is classically trained Flamenco guitarist who has often played with other famed gypsy musicians in Spain, France and Ireland.
Purchase tickets: $15 in advance, $18 day of show.
Sunday, May 15: Michele Shocked
-I admit, I was in the dark about this one; at 26 years of age, my popular music history just skirted the era of Michele Shocked and people certainly have made sure I was aware of what I had missed out on. The alternative-folk singer and songwriter has dozens of albums and recordings under her belt and a large - loyal - following.
Purchase tickets: $25 in advance, $28 day of show.
May 20: Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum
-In contrast, I'm proud to say Laurie Lewis WAS, in fact, part of my upbringing, thanks to my mom and dad's affinity for melodic folk and bluegrass music. The woman can croon, play the guitar and the fiddle and probably has a story or two to tell.
Purchase tickets: $16 in advance, $18 day of show.
But there's more! In June, our Summer Concert Series returns in partnership with the Arboretum, with outdoor concerts at the Arb the first Saturday of June, July, August and September. So far we've booked:
Kimera (June 4), The Honey Dewdrops (July 2), Novo Mundo (Aug. 6), and LoCura (Sept. 3). In short, the above list is a mix a folk, flamenco and world music. Start planning your picnic menus now...tickets will be available in the next few weeks!
