The Art of Picking the Dress.
When it comes to opening receptions at the Coconino Center
for the Arts choosing the perfect dress is no easy task. It involved much
scheming from the lovely ladies of the FCP. Usually a week or two before the
opening we start to discuss (complain) that nothing in our closets is worthy of
what should be such a beautiful night. And with 7 opening a year god forbid we
reuse a dress within those 7 special nights. I guess you could even say there is
an art to picking out a dress, and having it fit appropriately with the theme
of the night. Of course we know we make way to big a deal of this, but its fun
to bring out the fasionista every once and a while. Plus there is always that
satisfaction of tossing aside the paint dripped sweatpants that had been worn
the entire two weeks prior during the install.
One particularly fashion forward FCP staffer was once told
by a guest that the reason they come to the receptions is to see what she’s
wearing! How does that not put the pressure on? Never the less the dresses are great
but they always fall short to the amazing work hanging in the gallery that
night. This past weekend we had not just one, but two openings for the current
show It’s Elemental, that’s right folks not just one dress but two! And like I
said before we looked awesome but no where near as awesome as the gallery did.
If you weren’t able to join us for either It’s Elemental openings be sure to check out the show before it closes on December 20th.
The 12 annual fine crafts exhibition, showcases the very best in metal,
ceramics, fiber, glass and wood arts. There are lots of great pieces for sale
that would make amazing gifts this holiday season, and if you’re not in the
buying mood just come in an appreciate all of the local talent.
